Adelaide hairdresser Marcela Lastra has developed a new workshop titled ‘Training the New School: A Workshop’, which is launching as of early this year. Marcela is an award-winning hairdresser, salon owner, educator, community hairdressing advocate and SAHBA Co-President who is passionate about growing and sustaining the hair industry. This seminar will use those skills and values to spark lively conversations and deliver real solutions about the state of hair right now.
“I’ve conceptualised TTNS Workshop to offer a comprehensive overview of our industry that unveils the challenges and opportunities for business owners moving forward,” Marcela shared. “I’ll be sharing strategies on how to create salon environments that entice apprentices, how to embed training plans and ensure your salon fosters a culture of constant up-skilling and growth, and how to embrace the intersectional role you play as a business owner, employer, educator and mentor to your emerging talent.”
“Basically, in drawing from my own industry experience and listening to others’ needs, I’ve created raw, honest and holistic content in my approach to training the new school, and nothing is off limits!”
Marcela has experience as an expert De Lorenzo educator and has designed the agenda as based on the real needs of business owners, employers and creatives from her education classes, who are concerned about a changing industry. This content aims to aid employers in juggling salon responsibilities and training pressures simultaneously.
“My philosophy is to provide business owners, employers, and trainers with the relevant tools and information they need to embody the change they seek,” Marcela shared. “My hope for all attendees is that I take them on a transformative journey and equip them with the knowledge needed to reshape the industry landscape through strategic self-evaluation and, together, we can pioneer a new era for our industry – one where change starts with us.”
The workshop will centre on topics of Industry Insight to first understand industry dynamics, and The Workplace, to learn how to create a space that entices emerging talent and promotes healthy values through effective communication strategies. It then moves on to topics of The Art of Up-skilling, to create strength-based training plans for apprentices and Engagement, to learn how to sustain apprentice commitment and ensure a mutually beneficial learning experience.
In delivering this education, De Lorenzo will share Marcela’s content with their extensive client base over the first six months of 2024.
“It’s an incredible endorsement to have De Lorenzo as a launchpad for the workshop, and that they consider the content within TTNS to be relevant for today’s salons – to not only grow their clients’ businesses but as a flow on effect, grow the industry in a truly positive manner,” Marcela said. “I’m looking forward to sharing TTNS with the wider hairdressing community in 2024 and watching our industry continue to evolve!”
