Marie Cain for Redken created matte, lived in hair for We Are Kindred’s resort ’20 collection, Boheme Heart, at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia.
“The inspiration for today’s look is for the girls to look quite natural,” she explained.
“What we’re creating is hair that has that lived-in texture, and really fly away.”
Marie said she tailored each hair style to be individual towards each girl, as there was such a diverse number of hair styles and cuts with each model.
“The girls are wearing a gloss on their lip so it’s really important that the texture is matte,” she said. “We’ve done a soft, sweep to the side and we really don’t want too much shine to it.”
Marie said the hero products she used to create the look were Redken’s Triple Dry 15 Dry Texture Finishing Spray and Redken Dry Shampoo Powder, as well as a small tong or a regular flat iron with to emulate natural looking waves.
“We don’t want a beach wave, what we’re creating is a suggested bend in the hair,” she explained.
Marie said the hair complemented the We Are Kindred collection, which had a “Bohemian style, French girl vibe”.
“Think of a Stella McCartney or a Chloe girl,” she said. “It’s a cool girl who might wear a dress with sneakers, which is why we want them to look like they haven’t done too much to their hair.”
What the Redken hair director created was natural and effortless look, featuring a slight wave and volume with wispy fly-aways for the ultimate soft and feminine, girl next door style.
“The show’s got this really beautiful energy about it and the hair is sort of that cool ‘it’ girl, but it’s got a sort of feminine dream-like touch to it,” she said.
Makeup-wise, Lara Srokowski for Lancôme created a look that was inspired about resorts, “ like a beautiful summer holiday”.
“We really wanted to complement that in the models’ skin, so we’ve gone for a beautiful glass skin effect,” she said.
