A trio of hairdressing leaders have joined forces to educate in early 2024, as part of the NEW ERA education series. Australia’s own Monique McMahon of Q Brands, who is renowned for her prolific colour and education work as founder of QUE Colour, co-founder of MCM Beauty and a Wella Professionals National Ambassador, will direct the event and educate with US hair leaders Carlos Rojas and Devyn Pennell as a testament to live, independent colour education that traverses local industries.
Taking place over two full days on February 25 and 26 at Bangarra Dance Theatre in Sydney, the event will mark Carlos and Devyn’s first time on our shores, bringing the benefit of their expertise that has amassed over one million views in viral social media colour content.
The trio met earlier this year on the Shadow Me Tour in the US and connected over their shared approach to colour, business and social media, and are now bringing that talent and insight to the Australian market. Carlos is a One Shot Hair award winner, salon owner, Schwarzkopf Digital Artist Team member and boasts a social media following of over 200,000 followers. Devyn is an educator, salon owner, social media expert with over 545,000 followers across multiple platforms who constantly sets global trends.
“NEW ERA brings three major industry players to the international arena in one of Sydney’s most iconic venues. Devyn, Carlos and I will bring our colour skills and social media expertise to the stage for an independent education first, live-streamed across the world. Walk away from this two-day workshop with global-grade trends from the salon floor and the latest techniques fresh from the US,” Monique said.
“We’ve each achieved a high level of success through building our own unique brands. NEW ERA will share the building blocks of that success; from the education you should be focussing on to the brightest blends for blonde and mastering the latest trends like double glazed and colour blocking.”
Attendees can expect salon and social media insights in work that is deeply personal yet highly technical, which has won fans and clients the world over. On day one, each educator will present two models from beginning to end, covering natural tones, hair health, covetable brunettes, creamy and bright blonde blends, perfect finishes and Monique’s signature Glazed Colour and Latte finishes. Business and entrepreneurial content will cover brand building, Monique’s non-negotiable education checklist and TikTok tips. The education will instruct on spotting trends and transformational Colour-Blocking placements.
On day two, each educator will present one live model’s transformational look, showcasing rich coppers, necessary colour placement for copper and brunette hues, Devyn’s viral Pumpkin Spice hair, warm blondes and golden blondes. In business, the trio will discuss topics of salon culture, pricing, timing and educating clients. The day will conclude with a networking and social opportunity in a drinks event.
The educators will share their work with brand partners Wella, Schwarzkopf Professional and Redken, in a unique education format that promises to always act as a relatable, authentic and effective approach to modern salon ownership and brand building.
“The opportunity to share the room with best-in-class international industry leaders and social media sensations, each unpacking our own success stories and methods for standing out in this heavily saturated market is very relevant for our industry,” Monique shared. “This will be an epic celebration of healthy hair and healthy colour, brimming with the techniques and entrepreneurial know-how to set salon businesses apart from the crowd.”
