ANTI Collective is affirming their New York cool kid cred with three shows at New York Fashion Week – starting with emerging designer Duncan, with Kaimin and LRS to follow.
Luxury womenswear brand Duncan is designed for the multi-faceted woman. Think goth girl gone corporate, she is a juxtaposition of ultra-feminine to masculine chic. The New York based brand is dynamic, complex and multi-faceted – a perfect pairing for ANTI on the runway and backstage.
Hair Director William Webb created structure with a heavy side part defined in a romantic aesthetic. The collection itself highlights both the beauty of nature and a romantic old war era, combing both disparate aesthetics in an interesting way.
“The vibe was not to emulate the look of the period but to tap in to the mindset of dressing up and creating the best version of yourself. Key words were confidence, empowerment, freedom and individuality – synonymous with the ANTI brand values,” William said. “Using the signature deep side part and specific details like baby hairs around the face added an element of grunge, while keeping the texture and movement natural to juxtapose the ultra-femininity and masculine chic of the clothes.”
The ANTI hair team kept the hair flat to the head and stretched out the texture using an iron, nodding to a rock ‘n’ roll edge as complemented by strong makeup and a bold red lip.
“My brand is speaking to the edgy girl who has gone a little more luxe so I added elements that were much more feminine this season from the lengths, cuts and the silhouettes,” said designer Michelle Duncan, who drew her key inspiration from Romanticism and Pre Raphaelites. “My friends at ANTI and Prema created something super feminine and beautiful but with an edge by adding a slight element of messiness to the hair. The hair was really important for me because I relied on ANTI to edge it up a lot – to create femininity with a sense of independence.”
How to:
- Use setting clips to pin the hair into shape. Deep side part tucked behind the ear.
- Hair prep with Everything Spray to add a light texture and density to the hair. Then using a iron, flatten out texture slightly not straight just polish and refine texture.
- Small amount of setting spray over the top.
- Use hair net to flatten roots and follow head shape. Use small amount of hairspray and heat of the hairdryer.
