In February of this year, Massimo Tirimacco of Zohair was called to the stage at L’Oréal Professionnel Colour Trophy as the Colour Trophy winner as well as the marie claire Reader’s Choice recipient. The months since have been a whirlwind of opportunities, and his winning experience is the ideal motivation for you to enter the 2020 iteration, with entries closing soon.

INSTYLE: What have been your career achievements to this point?

Massimo Tirimacco: I’ve been a hairdresser since I was 15! I became a finalist for L’Oréal Colour Trophy at the age of 17 and I have been a finalist 8 times since. Winning not only the 2019 award this year, but also the marie claire’s Readers Choice award absolutely blew me away! I also became a finalist for Hair Expo SA /TAS Hairdresser of the Year in 2019.  I have owned my own salon for almost 2 years, and am currently working on a new salon concept.

IN: How has the Colour Trophy experience changed your career?

MT: Winning the L’Oréal Professionnel Colour Trophy has given me more drive and confidence in myself as a hairdresser. It’s given me that ‘kick’ in realising that I am ready to take it to the next level-artistically!

IN: What have you experienced since the win?

MT: Since the big win, the exposure has been phenomenal! The publicity through all the major industry platforms, magazines, social media has been next level. It’s so cool seeing my work be published/reposted daily all around the world!

IN: Why did you enter Colour Trophy?

MT: I entered Colour Trophy because I like to inspire and be inspired.  I don’t view it as a competition, but more an opportunity to communicate what I believe is “hair art”. I love being able to capture an image in that each element (hair, model, clothing etc.) perfectly balances the other. Win or lose- the opportunity is amazing, and every stylist should give it a crack!
