As we head into a new year, everyone’s wondering what hair and beauty trends have defined 2022 and what trends will dominate your feeds and chairs next year. Luxury beauty retailer Beauty Pie has sorted out the data to give us a glimpse of what’s to come.
The company just released their 2023 Beauty Trends Report with all the skincare, makeup, haircare, and body care trends that took over 2022, as well as new trends set to ignite in 2023.
The trends were revealed after Beauty Pie experts analysed millions of data points for hundreds of different trends to create the report, taking into account and totalling the number of TikTok hashtag views, Pinterest boards, Instagram hashtags, and the annual Google search volume for each of the trends. From there, experts analysed year-on-year Google search data for each of the trends, comparing the average annual volume over the past 12 months with the previous 12 months to take note of any important increases.
The biggest trend across the entirety of 2022 in all beauty sectors was the haircare trend known as the Wolf Cut, a modern take on the shag, which had a total of 1.9 billion engagements across social media and Google.
Climbing haircare trends are headlined by the Butterfly Haircut, which combines short and long layers and is up in popularity by 12,432%. Other celebrity led styles such as the Twist Knot Bun, Spiky Bun, Frame Haircut and Loop Braids, as well as novelty cuts such as the also shag-adjacent Octopus Haircut and the disconnected bob with layers known as the Jellyfish Haircut, were also popular. Scalp Serum proved the product trend rising most in popularity.
Ensure you’re ahead of the hair trends, in 2023 and beyond.
