It’s not just scrolling through Instagram that’s motivating your clients to get in the salon chair for a whole new look, Australian clients are also looking for trending cuts, colours and styles on Pinterest, with research from the platform itself ascertaining the trends.
In late 2021, the platform introduced a hair pattern search feature, an original technology that allows users to search for hair inspiration across specific hair types, from coily hair, to wavy, straight and more.
Alongside this feature, searches and research from Pinterest users show a high current interest in face framing curtain fringes, up 75 per cent, and chin length hair, up in searches by 50 per cent. The platform’s 2022 trend report, Pinterest Predicts, also highlighted an increase in searches for styles that have been popularised by celebrities – with the ‘octopus haircut’ doubled in searches and mullet searches up 188 per cent.
The platform has 10 times the branded searches of other platforms, driving users to discover both new styles and products. This is elevated by influencers titled Pinterest Creators across hair and beauty, who generate conversations with these mediums.
