Sloans of Lane Cove Senior Stylist Anne Russell has recently been recognised on the global stage, representing Australia at the WorldSkills Competition for 2022 in Finland and placing seventh in the world at the global championship. She was also awarded a Medallion of Excellence, Australia’s first win of this kind since 2017.
Highlighting her hairdressing skills in this international forum, Anne competed alongside of the world’s most talented hairdressers, while also partaking in the event with skilled workers from a variety of fields and disciplines in front of thousands of spectators.
Anne joined Sloans in 2019 as a Junior Stylist and was mentored by Sloans Owner and Director Scott Sloan, rising to the position of Senior Stylist and becoming a key member of the salon’s Creative Team. Anne assists on editorial shoots and campaigns alongside her salon work and has been competing in WorldSkills since 2019, where she won gold in a regional competition. She went on to win silver in the national competition in 2021, earning her a spot as a Skill Squad member and a position as an elite ‘Skillaroos’ with Team Australia.
WorldSkills was created to give young Australians access to vocational education and training that measures up on an international stage, with competitions at a regional, national and international level that have been running for over 40 years. WorldSkills globally represents more than 45 skills in over 75 member countries and regions to best prepare young talents in pioneering these industries for the future.
Anne will continue to inspire other hairdressers in her next role as a competition judge at the regional level, a full circle moment that goes back to her competition beginnings and that will also take place at her former home base of Wagga Wagga.
Congratulations to Anne and the entire Sloans team.
