Environmental organisation Sustainable Salons has partnered with Greener for Business in the pursuit of helping all salons go green, with offers and discounts that help further these environmental efforts for the industry at large.
Australian salons contribute more than 2,000,000 kilograms of salon waste to landfill every year, including hair clippings, aluminium foil, plastics and beyond. Sustainable Salons’ sustainability program helps salons cut their general waste bills by up to $3000 by collecting and recycling up to 95 of salon waste in a cash flow positive waste-diversion program. The organisation collects salon foils, leftover colour, bottles and chemicals, hair sweepings and even pet fur and turns it into new products, with 2 million kilograms of salon waste already diverted from landfill since they launched in 2015.
Now, Sustainable Salons have teamed up with the small business sustainability experts at Greener for Business to further elevate this impact across over 26,000 Australian hair and beauty businesses. Greener for Business is a Certified B Corp and leading cleantech startup in Australia, offering an all-in-one sustainability solution that offers savings to address climate action.

The organisation delivers a simple, step-by-step action plan that includes how-to guides and expert tips across areas like energy, waste, electrification, packaging, and logistics, while exclusive offers and partnerships like this allow their users to save time, money and emissions. The platform partners with bodies such as Origin, Australian Retailers Association, Better Business Partnership, Tyro, Sendle, Appliances Online and more in the pursuit of halving emissions for every small and medium business in Australia by 2030.
This new partnership allows salons to save instantly with 50 percent off the Sustainable Salons set-up fees, while Sustainable Salons members also get free access to Greener for Business, which is normally valued at $228 per year, to help them reduce emissions and waste across their entire business. The endeavour officially launched at Hair Festival over June 30 and July 1.
“Over 2,000,000 kilograms of salon waste are still being sent to landfill every year. So our program isn’t just about recycling; it’s about closing the loop and giving materials a new lease on life,” said Paul Frasca, co-founder of Sustainable Salons. “Thanks to our members, we’ve already diverted over 1,983,842 kilograms of salon waste from landfill since 2015. By partnering with Greener, we’re excited to scale our impact even further, and do it in a way that helps businesses improve their bottom line at the same time.”
“With increasing landfill levies, the simple fact is that recycling is now better for the bottom line. In many cases, businesses are paying more than double the price for red bin pick ups – that’s just like throwing cash in the bin,” added Tom Ferrier, Founder of Greener. “We’re excited to be helping salons shrink their general waste bills and make it easier to adopt more climate-friendly solutions like diverting their waste with Sustainable Salons.”
Beyond this partnership, Greener has also recently joined with the Australian Hairdressing Council to further aid the hair industry in their environmental goals.
“Making sure salon owners have the tools and services they need to get greener is critical to ensuring a sustainable future for our industry,” said Jenny Burns, Head of PR and Communications at the AHC. “The partnership between the AHC, Greener and Sustainable Salons will deliver a range of positive benefits both economic and environmental, and we’re excited to be helping our small business community fast track their sustainability journey.”
