If you’re looking to improve your editorial skillset, one of Sydney’s most prolific salons, Valonz, is congregating four inspiring stylists to teach you their secrets. Titled ‘Four on the Floor’, the education event on April 29 at La Porte Space, will showcase Renya Xydis, Travis Balcke, Keiren Street and Daren Borthwick as they present the insights of their legendary experience.
Each artist has chosen one of their most enthralling editorial looks and will recreate it live on stage, using a live model and just one hour each in these step by step processes. They will then partake in a Q and A where you can ask the questions you’ve always had of international hairdressing leaders.
Attendees will also submit an editorial look they want the artist to recreate, and the presenters will randomly draw a look to recreate on the spot. Four lucky audience members will be gifted incredible opportunities such as an assisting spot on the Fashion Week teams in New York or Sydney, and top-tier tools from Cloud Nine or Dyson. Every attendee will be given a carefully curated editorial kit, filled with the tools the four hairdressers can’t live without.
If you need further introduction to these hairdressing legends, Renya Xydis is a Wella Global Creative Artist and the driving force behind Valonz, as well as a brand ambassador for Dyson Supersonic and Creative Director for Cloud Nine ANZ. She has styled the hair of celebrities such as Selma Hayek, Eva Mendes, Heidi Klum and Margot Robbie and had her editorial work published in international fashion publications, from Vogue to Vanity Fair. She’s a jet-setting fashion week backstage expert, and balances her editorial, runway and celebrity career with her flourishing salon business.
Travis Blacke is renowned for his international career, where he has managed Eugene Souleiman’s team, and created hair for haute couture, ready-to-wear and men’s collections during Paris, Milan and New York fashion weeks. He has also styled the hair of celebrities such as Gigi Hadid, Lady Gaga, Gwyneth Paltrow, Cate Blanchett, Nicole Kidman and more. His work is often splashed across the pages of magazines such as Harper’s BAZAAR and Vogue, and you can often find him backstage at events like the Met Gala or Cannes Film Festival.
Keiren Street is a Valonz stalwart with a loyal clientele and experience in campaigns, runway shows and editorial shoots. Keiran was the hair director for Myer shows for four years, and was recently hair director for Toni Maticevski in Paris and Alice McCall in New York. He has worked alongside Eugene Souleiman and is renowned for his fresh approach to contemporary hair.
Daren Borthwick boasts an extensive international career, styling in Europe and New York for designers such as Victor and Rolf, Roberto Cavalli, Saint Laurent, Gucci, Celine, Kenzo, Max Mara, Ungaro, Philosophy and Givenchy. His hair looks bring about radical transformations, in colour, cut, shape and style, and he’s been awarded Hair Expo Session Stylist of the year three times for this bold work. With credits and covers in titles such as Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Elle, Marie Claire and more, Daren counts Kim Kardashian, Elle Macpherson, Kylie Minogue and Abbey Lee among his celebrity clients. Witness his sculptural, holistic approach to hair at the education event.
Beyond this enticing education event, Valonz are also constantly educating and inspiring on their YouTube channel, where they regularly share their creative ideas with the industry.
