Joey Scandizzo’s Hair Expo Australian Hairdresser of the Year editorial submission was dripping in gold, in dreamy sepia tones and with gold hair accents and plenty of light defining the aesthetic. Fittingly, it took home the actual gold at the awards evening, winning the night’s major title with an inspiring, opulent aesthetic. See the full collection below.
In presenting the award, hairdressing legend Angelo Seminara stated that the winner tends to jump off the page or wall, and Joey’s collection had that quality in spades. Eclectic techniques, including a bold checkerboard colour pattern and a hero look that boasts a strong, feathery Avant Garde shape, were placed in a classic setting, with an ethereal, regal overall aesthetic. A strong approach to cut and style in long and short hair offered a bold, interesting editorial approach while never losing its true sense of beauty – something that is always key in the Joey Scandizzo aesthetic.
Joey worked with the dream team of husband wife duo Andrew and Kylie O’Toole on photography and makeup respectively, with styling by Josie McManus. Diverse models from Chadwick Models brought the collection to life.
Merging modern, cutting edge hair ideas with its classic theme, Joey puts you in the mindset of 18th century France, right in the middle of the Palace of Versailles, only if Marie Antoinette and her fellow royals were somehow on the forefront of 21st century hair innovation. By acting as both a classicist and an artistic pioneer, Joey inspires with this collection.
Congratulations on the well deserved win.
