Danny Pato has scored that impressive hat trick, winning the title of New Zealand Hairdresser of the Year for the third year running in an incredibly significant feat. Danny’s bold collection was an explosion of colour and creativity, with his trademark hair pieces, craft supplies and pom poms ensuring every inch of the hair and fashion styling was vibrant. The tribal aesthetic utilised unique styling, cut and colour, boasting dread locks, multi-coloured stands and minuscule details to evoke vibrancy and passion, with clashing fashion prints and accessories that all tied together in a perfect final aesthetic.
Photographed by Mara Sommer, with styling by Danny and Rachel Morton and makeup by Kiekie Stanners, the collection left a longstanding impression. Danny’s input into the fashion styling isn’t surprising when viewing how seamlessly these clashing prints, colours, patterns and bold hair looks work together. Creating short and long hair shapes, as well as up styles, out of alternative materials, the collection was a unique approach to creative and tribal-inspired hair and fashion. A strong copper background anchored the colours and allowed each hue, texture and detail to pop off the page.
As last year’s New Zealand Hairdresser of the Year winner, Danny recreated these looks and brought these images to life, putting on an inspiring show for the full audience at the 2018 Hair Expo Awards. It’s this level of ingenuity, artistry, originality and beauty that enthralled that audience, and keeps earning Danny trophies for his mantle. Congratulations to Danny and D&M Hair Design on this collection and achievement.
