The Australian Hair Fashion Awards (AHFAs) took over The Star at Sydney, congregating the industry’s best to honour the true pioneers and, amongst sparklers, music and rapturous applause, the pinnacle title of Australian Hairdresser of the Year was awarded. Lyndal Salmon of BIBA Academy took home the coveted award, and this was her winning collection.

Titled Athena, the black and white collection is a haunting feat of texture, style and hair as a fabric, with intricate weaving, shaping and hair printing techniques that speak to hairdressing as a craft. The collection was created with photographer Andrew O’Toole, makeup artist Kylie O’Toole and styling by Ella Murphy.
In winning the award, Lyndal spoke of the investment of time and energy in creating a collection of this calibre, not just from her, but from the people in her life who supported her through it. She thanked her family and talked about how her daughter manifested the win for her months prior. Concluding her speech, she spoke about leading the industry with this role and platform and inspiring from the front.
Lyndal’s win capped off a major night of 25 awards and, in a new development, saw her automatically pre-nominated in the Hairdresser of the Year category at the International Hairdressing Awards.
Congratulations to Lyndal on this fantastic achievement.
