Men’s Hairdresser of the Year at the 2019 Australian Hair Fashion Awards, Madison Voloshin, was one of many winners to pay tribute to the familial and supportive culture in the hair industry, literally calling his confused and delighted mother on his phone on stage and putting her speakerphone up to the microphone. While he did have to hang up to actually deliver his speech (she immediately called back, don’t worry), the sense of pride from his actual family and A-H Salon family was evident – and with a winning collection this bold, creative and intricate, you can see why.

Like men’s hairdressing and men’s products and tools, this category continues to rise and Madison’s images show how to inspire with editorial barbering looks. His collection boasts diversity between the models and the hair looks, with unique shapes and texture, original takes on the afro style, a creative and artfully crafted buzz cut, luscious curls, variations in legnth and artistic details.

Set against a muted backdrop, the fashion styling also forgoes men’s looks that have to be monochromatic. Bright yellows, soft greens and vivid purples anchor the varied aesthetic, still leaving room for the aforementioned hair techniques to be the hero.
