View the Hair Expo 2018 Victorian Hairdresser of the Year Collection

Stranger Things, a collection by Hermiz Daniel, certainly makes an impact – wowing the 2018 Hair Expo judges to take out the title of Victorian Hairdresser of the Year Collection and the overall Editor’s Choice at the event. The collection won for its bold, conceptual style, earning it to the two well deserved victories.

“The inspiration behind this collection was a bit of an odd one! Phillip Treacy was my inspiration and focus this year since his work included the use of various objects to create his millinery work,” Hermiz said. “He sees everything from a different perspective where he creates beautiful shapes and looks. I tried to apply that to my collection. We did this by incorporating different hair textures and colours by merging them together to create a new look and feel. Also Stranger things came to my mind when I was creating these looks, since the way it was shot was quite mysterious and dark.”

Materials and accessories were vital in creating these bold techniques and textures, which Hermiz continued to experiment and play with as he approached shoot day, developing new ideas and concept changes through the process of creation. A moody yet crisp environment and hints of the Stranger Things TV shows, perfectly fused photography, style (think latex fashion pieces) and beauty to create the conceptual shoot.
