A night dedicated to hair fashion, skill and entertainment took place in Brisbane over the weekend, as Wella Professionals announced their TrendVision Awards. Hosted by Benni and Kristian Tognini, a crowd of industry veterans and emerging talents came together to discover the winners in the prestigious categories of Color Vision and Creative Vision from a pool of 40 finalists.
The entrants each created their editorial masterpiece based on the brand’s Pure Chroma Nontouring trend, and were judged by an illustrious panel consisting of Frank Apostolopoulos (BIBI Gertrude St.), Belinda Jeffrey (La Boutique), Lee Cohen (Reds Salon), Atilio Dusa (Clip Joint Salons), Kylie Hayes (Moha Hairdressing), Justin Pace (Papas + Pace), Deanna Parker (Wieselmann Salon) and Guy Roberts (Vada).
“TrendVision is an integral part of Wella’s commitment to celebrate and elevate hairdressing talent. It is a truly life changing opportunity for Australian and New Zealand hairdressers and gives them the opportunity to have their work recognised on a national and international level,” said the brand’s Education Director Australia & New Zealand, Gina Thomas. “A remarkable legacy, TrendVision is still the first and only hairdressing competition showcased on a national and international level.”
So a drumroll please for this year’s victors, who were named as Elizabeth Shedwick of TONI&GUY (Australia) and Jackson Rodeka of Zaibatsu Hair Art (New Zealand) for Creative Vision. The Color Vision Gold Award was won by Tanya Grant of Joey Scandizzo Salon (Australia) and Anna Bell of TONI&GUY (New Zealand). These four talented hairdressers will now compete on their country’s behalf in Portugal later in the year.
“On behalf of Wella, I would like to congratulate our Creative Vision Gold Award winners and our Color Vision Gold Award winners,” Gina said. “It’s incredible to see the ever increasing quality of creativity and craft of our winners and all of our entrants in 2018 TrendVision. I would also like to thank our judges for their contribution to TrendVision and also our industry. We wish our Gold winners the very best for International TrendVision in Lisbon, Portugal.”
The evening was inspiring in a multitude of ways, shining a light on the brand’s editorial masters, and showcasing bold runway shows to ignite the audience’s creative energy.
Wella Professionals Colour Directors ANZ, Jack Morton and Marie Uva created a bold, vibrant colour show made with the brand’s Colour Fresh CREATE shades. Additionally, System Professional Creative Directors ANZ, Uros Mikic and Richi Grisillo put on a styling showcase, producing soft, wearable, touchable hair with the brand’s new care-infused styling range. Sebastian Professional Creative Director ANZ, Brad Lepper and Jayne Wild of Wild Life Hair showed off limitless creativity with urban and edgy looks that spoke to the crowd’s elevated editorial imagination.
All in all, it was a night to celebrate artistic successes, but also look forward to how much more can be achieved. We’ll be keeping a keen eye on Lisbon later in the year to see just how far those achievements can go.
