Wella Professionals Debut Smart Mirror for Salon Colour

We expect 2019 to be fittingly futuristic, and Wella Professionals is already delivering, debuting their all-new Smart Mirror in January. The technology is powered by the award winning CareOS operating system to elevate their hair colour salon experience, all the way from consultation to aftercare.

Features in this tech-savvy tool include live augmented reality colour that clients can try, facial recognition that stores past looks and 360 degree video, with the technology running on any device from tablets to mobile phones, and ensuring hairdressers can transport it to any mirror in any salon. It featured at the CES 2019 event in America as part of the CareOS Artémis connected Smart Mirror, which was named a CES® 2019 Innovation Awards Honoree.

The tool was co-created with the help of Wella Professionals hairdressers and salon owners so that it could truly cater to the industry’s needs. The research included a survey of almost 1700 hairdressers and clients on what they required in salon to deliver on these requirements.

“We are incredibly excited about this breakthrough innovation, allowing hair professionals, the original image and change makers in beauty, to take their consultation with their clients to the next level,” said Laura Simpson, Coty Professional Beauty Chief Marketing Officer. “With the new Wella Professionals Smart Mirror, clients can have an even more customised session with their stylist, visualise their desired colour before application, as well as maintain the relationship and service after the salon visit. Co-developed with stylists, with this new tool we are enabling them to build stronger consultations and relationships with their clients, which is critical in our industry.”

“This breakthrough ecosystem empowers stylists and addresses many of the pain points associated with the salon hair colour category,” added Elodie Levy, Senior Director Digital Innovation at Coty.  “Clients fear getting an unexpected colour result and the use of augmented reality for trying on hair colour shades in the salon is a game changer to address this challenge. Further, we’ve created a flexible and portable platform that can be scaled across salons of all sizes, a major step in reinventing the salon experience for all.”

The mirror technology also offers the user a curated feed of trends and inspiring looks, social media sharing capabilities, product recommendations and touchless technology that responds to hand swipes and gestures.

We’re officially in the future, and if that means better colour, more satisfied clients and easier salon appointments we fully embrace it.
