Her photographic entry collection for this year’s AHFAs, created in collaboration with brand and colour partner JOICO, explores themes of sex and beauty. The group of images, fittingly titled It Girl, questions where society’s perceptions of these concepts has evolved from by examining some of the most famous women of yesteryear.
“My collection was inspired by the power of sex and the beauty of women,” Mikelah-Jayde shared. “From playboy to the sex icons over the decades, and the sweet girl next door look. The girl who everyone wants to be and the girl who everyone wanted. It has a fun, flirty, sexy vibe. Being sexy is empowering to oneself and others. I wanted to show this in my collection. Two words come to mind when you see the below iconic names – sexy and beautiful.”
The collection took inspiration from generations of iconic women including Marilyn Monroe, Pamela Anderson, Madonna, Elizabeth Taylor and many more. The collection showcases a Brigitte Bardot-style blonde hue and hero, the iconic Farrah Fawcett 70s-style feather cut. It also offers multi-dimensional hues in fiery and bold red, orange and pink and an exploration of versatile styles, cuts, hair lengths, shapes and textures.
