Audrey Hepburn said “As you grow older you will discover that you have two hands. One for helping yourself, the other for helping others.” OneMusic is offering complimentary licences for any music event specifically raising funds for this cause. You can be part of this personally or as a salon – here are some ideas to creatively get involved.
1. Have a laneway party with the right tunes to set the scene. Ask your landlord and local Council if you could host a fundraiser. Ask your retail and hospitality neighbours to pitch in. You could even set up a VIP area with wait service, a rug and comfy seats and cushions.
2. Create a pamper-fest. Get some stalls together with your neighbours, clients, friends and even your competition! Beauty treatments, mini makeovers, chair massages, a relaxing tai chi class. Little Black Fox Beauty in Ballarat, Victoria had a two-day bushfire fundraising event with other beauty and hair businesses. Now that’s the spirit!
3. Task a local high school music class to create a song about the fires. Pay them to perform acoustically inside your business after-hours – sell tickets and cordon off a larger area or host a couple of performances for maximum capacity.
4. Run an Emergency Services Day just like Macquarie Medi Spas did in Bathurst, NSW. Treat all the volunteers on their days off. As you book them in ask them what music they really like and make that happen. Enhance their sense of wellbeing listening to the music they specifically love.
5. Host a live music or a film fundraiser and build on this with raffles and auction items. Don’t know where to start? Visit the Live Music Office and your local cinema for help.
6. Host a music quiz in the salon. Every hour play a snippet of a song – or have a DJ on site for late night trade. Ask clients to guess the song for a nominal donation. Reward correct answers with a sample product.
7. Host a lip sync battle (singing into hair brushes). Suede Hair in Cairns, Queensland hosted a battle as a fundraiser – an unforgettable night for both the audience and those brave enough to take on the challenge!
8. Offer to be a drop-off point for any donations and give a small sample of hair or beauty product to the donors as they exit – what goes around comes around.
9. Share the Space. List a spare section of your business for those in need of temporary business space. There are many businesses who can operate quietly in a corner with just power and WiFi to keep going until they get on their feet.
10. Spend With Them. This Instagram account lists businesses suffering from the impact of the fires. If you were going to buy it anyway, why not ask them first?
Ask OneMusic about what music might work best for your salon when you sign up for a music licence under OneMusic Australia. You probably need a licence if you have our music playing through a streaming service, OneMusic can explain why.
Support the music industry, ensure you’re operating legally as a salon and help our country in it’s dire state – don’t wait a moment longer to do your part.
