Diversity of clientele bound by the search for healthy, quality and on trend hair in feel and aesthetic, eco-conscious values and a shared philosophy around service and innovation – Horse Meat Disco Salon and Christophe Robin have a lot in common, paving the way for a natural partnership between salon and brand.
We chatted to Mikey Forster, salon founder, about this synergistic relationship and how it makes Horse Meat Disco Salon only that much stronger from an already iconic core.
Tell us a little about Horse Meat Disco Salon.
Horse Meat Disco Salon is a boutique salon in Stones Corner, Brisbane. I have a team of twelve incredible stylists and we are specialists in all things colour. I opened the door to the Disco eight years ago and I’ve also been working closely with Wella Professionals as a Top Artist and educator for the past 7 years. We have a very diverse range of clients, but they all have the same wish: healthy, on trend, fashion forward hair.
All of my team members colour and cut but I have one team member who specialises in cutting. Although we are known in the industry as a predominantly colour salon, to our clients we are equally as respected for our ability to create beautiful shapes in cuts. A signature Disco look is a multi-dimensional colour, teamed with a sharp fresh cut, with wearable movement.
What gives your salon its point of difference?
Our customer service and care for our clients is a main priority to us at the Disco. Our care for hair health is paramount, so ensuring we use products that support our philosophy is really important to us. My team are all highly trained and continue to educate themselves constantly, which means we are always on trend and creating new looks for our clientele. Pair education, care and professionalism with loads of fun and you have our culture at the Disco – which our clients compliment us on regularly.
What appeals to you about Christophe Robin?
Christophe Robin has been on my radar for a couple of years now and with COVID, I really thought about what I wanted to offer my team and clients. A boutique brand that supports our philosophy with hair health and designed by a colourist meant that it was a no brainer. I love the amount of natural ingredients throughout the range and the scents are just beautiful. The results speak for themselves on our clients’ hair and it’s so nice when they are as excited as we are about using the brand.
How does it complement your salon identity?
We are a boutique high-end hair salon and our clients have very high expectations of our work. The Christophe Robin brand is all about beautiful, healthy, shiny hair, something we strive for at the Disco. Our clients are loving the regime of its skincare-like usage. It’s an opportunity for them to really relax and fall in love with products in a whole new way.
What is the reaction to the brand from your staff and clients?
The team are loving it! They believe in it and are passionate about it. They want a brand that delivers results and with Christophe Robin, they’re able to share their passion with our clients. Our clients love the natural ingredients and the scents, especially the volume range. The beautiful rose scent is absolutely divine!
What’s your hero Christophe Robin product?
Our current favourite Christophe Robin product is the Daily Moisturising Hair Cream with Sandalwood because of its nourishing yet light consistency, and our clients are loving it too!
What’s next for your salon?
Next up we really want to focus on our clients and our core offerings by having services and products that align, another reason why we have taken on Christophe Robin. Once the world returns to normal, I’d love to look at ways of growing the salon – whether it be moving to an exciting new space or offering a second salon. From an education point of view, we are very excited for the borders to open so we can have a greater opportunity for training from our industry leaders down south.
