Be invited into Salon Zephyr, located in Sydney’s inner-west and bursting with the sophistication and street cool you’d expect of the area. The salon is owned and operated by a local, otherwise heralded as 2018 and 2019 Hair Expo NSW/ACT Hairdresser of the Year Nathan Cherrington, promising top-tier cut and colour that personally suits each client’s look and lifestyle.
The salon had formerly been trading as TONI&GUY Concord, and now sits amongst the area’s chic cafes, restaurants and fashion boutiques as Salon Zephyr. A new connection with luxe Australian salon distributors Rogue Beauty – particularly with brand recruits Oribe, R+Co and Pulp Riot, has further refreshed the salon.
“Pulp Riot has something for everyone” Nathan shared of this international, vibrant colour brand. “Whether the client prefers a soft or full blanket coverage, Pulp Riot easily adapts to both situations. The performance of Pulp Riot is second to none, easily creating a beautiful soft blonde or a power packed vivid. The team behind the brand are also impeccable and have made our transition into becoming a Rogue Beauty flagship salon an effortless changeover.”
The salon also retails luxury brand Oribe as well as high-end innovative brand R+Co, both of which perfectly fit with the salon ethos.
“The product needs to do what it says it does on the bottle whilst also giving our clients that in salon luxury feel in the comfort of their own home where they are able to recreate the looks they receive by their stylist,” Nathan said of his retail brands. “The brands we have aligned ourselves with are all ethically sourced and are environmentally aware. We also appreciate that they are salon exclusive as well.”
This commitment to care and professionalism is key to Salon Zephyr, which is a welcome fit in the local scene. Building on Nathan’s passion, creativity and talent, his keen eye for editorial work and business acumen fuels Salon Zephyr.
Nathan wanted to ensure the space embodied his own love and interests – including a taste for local Sydney life, coastal travels and exploration at large – as well as his clients and community. The salon hoped to encouraged clients to come as themselves and be welcome, embodying the Concord spirit and even prompting a #comeasyouare hashtag. The ethos is clear: “Whoever you are, whatever your vibe, you are welcome here.”
“We love the village feel of Concord,” Nathan added. “There is literally six degrees of separation throughout the Concord community. Once we start one family member we tend to also gain everybody else too. When we first moved to the area, everybody was so welcoming and we received gifts from all of the other small businesses on Majors Bay road. It was such a heart warming change from the hustle and bustle of the mini CBD area we used to be in. We quickly found that Concord was not only the perfect area to run our small business but also a lovely place to raise our children.”
The salon community doesn’t just exist outside of the salon, the salon team is particularly important too, with a true family vibe and sense of collective individualism that stands out.
“The community within the salon is so special. We have created a close family environment and make sure every person feels valued, appreciated and heard,” Nathan said. “We work as a tribe and on an equal playing field, no task is beneath anyone and we all help each other out where possible. We like to focus on building every team member to be the best version of themselves in all ways possible, not just a great hairdresser.”
A community built from stellar products, clients and team members, who all revel in the local atmosphere and put luxury professionalism first. Salon Zephyr is a local stalwart for a reason.
