Hairdressing students at Box Hill Institute were chosen to open Hair Expo’s NextGen Gala on Saturday, 10 June with a breathtaking show of avant garde hairstyles and high fashion.
Their show called Kabuki caused a roar from the audience who were delighted by a spectacular backdrop of burning flames as the models in flame-inspired fashion appeared on stage.
The Box Hill Institute team was made up of students from hairdressing, make up and fashion students along with choreographer Abbey Jones.
Hot on the heels of the national Work Skills competition, the NextGen Gala was yet another exciting development opportunity for Box Hill Institute hairdressing students.
Head of Hairdressing at Box Hill Institute, Ruth Browne said that the event was a perfect introduction for Certificate III students in backstage session hairstyling and teamwork.
“Hair Expo has created a wonderful first-time experience for many young hairdressers and trainees and we are thrilled with the results of the hairstyling that they produce,” Ruth said.
“The creation of looks to match the award-winning fashion by Box Hill alumnus, Tess Whitford was a really exciting project for the students who eagerly leapt in and got the job done so incredibly well.”
Ruth said that Box Hill Institute provided as many opportunities as possible for students to get hand-on experience in industry partnerships like this one.
