Jonina Menzies, from Shoalhaven, NSW, has been working in salons since she was 13 years old! Now, running her own salon, Maiden Hair, in Nowra, Jonina has created Yeshair Australia and is passionate about sharing her knowledge with the wider hairdressing industry.

Jonina’s experience has taught her that whilst most hairdressers know how to cut hair – they’re not always confident in styling naturally textured hair. Working alongside salons and industry professionals, Jonina aims to empower professionals to feel confident about cutting and styling textured hair. So when clients leave the salon, they feel educated, satisfied and most importantly, HAPPY!

The Motivation
Yeshair Australia was created to provide high-quality Australian-made products for ALL types of curly hair. Jonina says, “Once we created the products, we focussed on education and curl maintenance”.

For too long, curlies have felt challenged by their head of hair, often even hating it!

“It’s not their fault! There has been little to no education around how to look after your curly hair here in Australia. It’s been all blondes, balayage and blow waves for so long”.

The Approach

Yeshair’s philosophy is to educate the stylist and the client. “It’s a two-fold approach that works! Everybody should have the opportunity to learn how to embrace their natural hair, and we believe the professional community should be the authority around curls.”

“There are multiple techniques in cutting textured hair” Jonina says, “and it’s all about how you approach textured hair; that’s the point of difference” Cutting and styling textured hair requires you to take a totally different approach”.

The Courses

Offering Two innovative courses, the Curls made easy routines and the Dry cutting course, your whole team, will learn how to care for a curly-haired client from the moment they walk through the door right through to their next consultation.

There are TWO primary goals of the online Curls Made Easy Routines and Dry Cutting Course.

The first is educating your salon staff on cutting and styling textured hair.

The second is to educate clients on how to style, hydrate and care for their hair.

Jonina’s motivation behind creating these routines was to establish a better “flow” in her own salon. Understanding that when she taught her junior stylists, the curls made easy routines, there was more efficiency and order in her own salon. Senior stylists could coordinate with juniors who could finish styling while they moved on to other clients. Working together as a team in such a collaborative way meant massive growth for her salon.
